About Pakwach branch
Pakwach branch was established 2000 with the aim of helping the youth in Jonam county to participate in community development work through voluntary service. The local communities especially youth and women are exposed to high HIV/AIDS infection rates due to the traffic and people who stop by for night(s) on their way to their destinations. UPA Pakwach branch has for long been engaged in initiatives that address community challenges and is committed to designing new approaches. The communities mainly live on the scarce natural resources that are constrained hence rampant environmental degradation. Food supplies are dependent on imports from neighbouring districts.
LocationIt is situated on the business transit route to Southern Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The branch is located in Lubiri “A’ Village, Puvungu West Ward, Pakwach Town Council, Jonam county, Nebbi district, North Western Uganda. Jonam is a semi-arid area with very un-favourable climatic conditions for basic agriculture.
Within the branch projects, Pakwach is running a community Library, a Village Savings and Loans Association and has been hosting volunteers of the European Aid Volunteer Initiative
For 2020 one workcamp is planned. Date and details will be announced at a later stage.
