UPA Guest House
The UPA Guesthouse is located in Nansana village, on the outskirts of Kampala city.
Our cozy guesthouse can host up to 16 volunteers at any time, but the actual number can vary considerably. The volunteers who stay with host families are allowed to visit the guesthouse.
The facilities
At the guesthouse you will find a kitchen with a gas cooker, a bathroom with toilet and (cold) shower, outside toilets, a covered and an open place where you can do your laundry and dry your clothes, and a living room.
Next to the guesthouse you will find the UPA office and Pioneer Youth Centre (PYC)-UPA Central Branch offices.
The surrounding
Nansana village is a quiet and nice place to stay, and all your basic needs can be found close to the guesthouse.
Kampala city can be reached by a matatu (taxi) in 40 minutes (depending on traffic).
Food and drinks can be bought at the small shops and with the many street vendors, small restaurants/take-aways in the vicinity of the guesthouse.
Electricity & Internet
Powercuts are irregular but happen in Nansana. We advise to bring a powerbank.
Internet services can be accessed around Nansana trading centre or else a volunteer can use his/her laptop by subscribing to any service provider like MTN or Airtel.
Leisure activities
For the ones that fancy a shake, there is a local discotheque nearby or move Kampala city for a variety of places.
Within walking distance there is a gym that offers various courses. Our UPACT branch practices traditional dances three times a week and you are welcome to join.
Safety
The guesthouse has a caretaker who is a resident and supports with the cleaning, guides the volunteers on a number of issues if need be.
A security guard takes care of safety issues and makes sure, no foreign people enter the ground
